How Often Should You Get a Haircut?

A Stamford barber's plain answer, with no upsell.

May 21, 2026 · 3 min read

There is no single right answer, but there is a wrong one: whenever you happen to think of it. By then the cut has already gone long.

Short and faded cuts show growth first. Two to three weeks is the window. Past that, the neck line fuzzes and the sides lose their shape.

Medium length and tapers are more forgiving. Four to five weeks keeps the shape without overspending.

Longer styles need less frequent cuts but more regular trims to keep the ends clean. Six to eight weeks is typical.

The honest test is the back of your neck. If you can feel it before you can see it in the mirror, you are overdue. Call ahead, then walk in.
